Hi guys, this is probably a dumb question, but:I'm trying to record system audio in a couple of different applications, and it's not working. Specifically, I'm trying to record audio off the web in Audacity, and system audio to accompany screenshot video in Debut Video Capture.Based on google-fu, I went into the Sounds Control Panel and enabled Stereo Mix, but even when I select it as the record input in the applications, I get total silence on the recording, even though the expected sound is coming out of my speakers.I'm using Windows 7 Home.Again: The problem is NOT simply that Stereo Mix is disabled. That seems to be a common problem, and enabling it suffices for most people. But as I said, I've already done this, but when I select Stereo Mix as the input, it simply doesn't work.Any help would be much appreciated. It's probably something simple I'm missing, but I've tried everything I can think of or find info about online. Hi,1.Have you set Stereo Mix as default device and default communication device?
Just as a mention, enable is not the same as default (green check mark).2.Also, try disabling Microphone while enabling Stereo Mix.3.If the methods above not work, reinstall the sound driver for test.StartControl PanelHardware and Sounds Click 'Device Manager'.Find the driver/device that you wish to reinstall, which would be your sound driver, 'right-click' and select 'uninstall'.Then reboot, if this was a Windows provided driver, then your PC should reinstall it the next time you log back in. If it requires the driver from the manufacturer you will be prompted to provide it.Meanwhile, I still want to mention the steps to enable Stereo Mix.How To Enable “Stereo Mix” in Windows 7 (to Record Audio)Please note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio) must be enabled and set as the default recording device. If you can't see Stereo Mix in your list of options, it's possible that 'Show Disabled Devices' or 'Show Disconnected Devices' is unchecked. To check this, right click somewhere in the list of options that you do have and selectthem.2.
The playback device must be analog, not digital. Basically, if you want to record the Stereo Mix, switch your default playback device to 'Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)'or plug in any standard headphones/speakers that use a 3.5mm jack.
I've been struggling with this and Moneigh's anwser is excellent since its not well documented that if you are using the HDMI or anyother digital out for audio Audacity won't record using Stereo Mix. And if using HDMI it won't record no matter what you tryto do.But I've found you can record when using a digital out like optical or spdif. Audacity (win7 and later versions) should have an audio source selection for 'Windows WASAP' which can make a direct digital recording (normally you are going from digital- analog - digital with other methods).

Meaning you'll get a better recording normally. For me in Audacity I select:Audio Host:Windows WASAPRecording source: Realtek Digital (optical)Playback source: Realtek Digital (optical)(note the recording/playback should be the same). One can not record(or listen) via stereo mix(which is Analog) while default playback is Digital. However there is a trick,1. Select Default playback device to Digital Output.2.
Dec 17, 2018 Sort Folders in Windows 10 by Size There can be many reasons why you would want to sort files and folders in your hard disk by size in the file explorer. One of them is. Sort folders by size mac. This does not sort the folders by size, as it does not recognize the total size if there are subfolders within it. – AutomatorEnthusiast Oct 6 '14 at 6:15 @AutomatorEnthusiast actually YES, Treesize will calculate all folder sizes recursively and sort by the total size – phuclv Jun 28 '18 at 5:43. Aug 14, 2010 Sort option on basis of size for folders are not there in Windows be default but you can sort folders by size in Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista. This can be achieved in many was on Linux, and for example if you have quota enabled it can be as easy as checking the quota list. But if quota is not enabled on the partition, I am using the following simple command to get the list of subfolders sorted by their size: du -max-depth=1 /home/ sort -n -r.
Select default recording device to Stereo Mix.3. Play anything over digital output.
Whenever you want to record just plug in a blank (unwired) 3.5mm jack into front panel headphone out and PC will allow you to record via stereo mix. (Digital audio will stop outputting)Additionally to switch between two devices without going to playback device and change setting all the time(say between a USB Headphone and a SPDIF device.)Just select 'Listen to this device' under stereo mix setting and select the USB headphone as client. Once this is done, whenever you will plug in the 3.5mm jack the audio will automatically switch to USB headphones and turn off Digital out.
Stereo Mix Not Working
I recently came to a sound hiccup when I wanted to set my live stream to record audio and video from my desktop (video works fine no question), but speak to my viewer(s) on skype with my microphone. I've always had stereo mix enabled and I believe it's worked fine in the past, but recently it's acting up.For some reason, only the Microphone or Stereo mix work one at a time. I either have to disable one to get the other work, or set one as the 'Default Device'.
When setting as the default device, that particular option will work, and the other will not. When stereo mix is set, the microphone levels (the little green bars) are nonexistent as I run my finger past the mic or blow into it. Same with the stereo mix if the Mic is set to default and I play sounds. What's weird was, when I was in Skype, pressing one function to be the default did not change what picked up sound. That is when I had to disable the other in order to get one to work.I am on Realtek High Definition Audio and my driver is all up to date.
I have done countless searches, most of them lead to how to enable stereo mix and the few that actually recognize the problem I have seem to not have a posted solution.

Okay, I tried everything from enabling mobo sound from bios, updating drivers, reinstalling drivers, and enable stereo mix from sound control panel. Whatever I do, I can't seem to get my stereo mix to work, it's there and enabled. It also says that the device is working properly, but when I play a song or any sound that I hear from my speakers/headphones from the 'playback' tab. It does not relay to the stereo mix from the 'recording' tab. So the stereo mix isn't catching 'what i hear', but IT IS enabled. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Or any suggestions to fixing this problem?I am running on a HP Pavilion P6510fAMD Athlon II X4 630 2.80GhzWindows 7 Home Premium (64 bit OS)Realtek High Definition AudioAny help will be much appreciated.
Yes its set as default recording device. But the volume bar doesnt move at all, it's not picking up anything from my speakers.' I can't seem to get my stereo mix to work, it's there and enabled.'
Just so we're clear, enabled is not the same as Default (green check mark)Onward-Have you set the recording level?Select Stereo Mix (single left click) then the 'Properties' button in the lower right. There should be a 'Levels' tab. I have mine set at about 12.AlsoListen to this Device should be disabledAdvance Tab should be 2 channel 16-bit 44.1kHz.Ap. Here are the screens, let me know if you need any other screens. And I am getting output from my headphones not speakers.Michael. Whaty a mystery. Two things to try, with the 'Stereo Mix' you don't need to disable enhancements.(The DC Offset) so uncheck that and reboot. Also, do you have a set of speakers? If not, do you have an old set of headphones (or turn the master volume way down) you can plug into the light green speaker jack in the back of the computer. Then make the speakers the default output device.
Be sure and unplug the headphones now in use.Just want to see if making the speaker the default playback device gets Stereo Mix working.Ap. Well it seems like that worked! Switching to speakers instead of headphones, the stereo mix picks up from the green speaker jack behind the tower.
Is there a way to make it work on the front headphone jack?Doubtful, I think the headphone output incorporates a mechanical switch and it probably shunts the audio out before Stereo Mix picks up from the speaker output. One long shot you can try:With your phones plugged into the front, go to Stereo Mix, select it, then open the properties button, selct the 'Listen' tab. Go to the Drop down 'Playback Through This Device' and see if your Headphones show up as a selection. If so select them, select 'Apply' and exit, now see if Stereo Mix is picking up anything.
I don't think this will work as it's not the base function of the 'Listen' section.Ap. I also can't seem to get programs like CamStudio to record the sound even though the option is enabled. I just purchased HP Pavilion p6510f and it has this realtek codec as well. Enabled the stereo mix which was disabled as default and I am having the same problem. When I play a song or anything, no green bars going up and down on the stereo mix.I updated my drivers already and read articles upon articles.
There doesn't seem to be a solid answer yet. Anyone have a fix for this?I managed to figure out one way to get it to work, but it won't work if you have headphones plugged in.Right-click the sound icon by the clock and go to Playback Devices. Right-click Speakers and go to Properties. Switch to the Levels tab, and unmute the Microphone.
Piece of cake. This is what I did. Simply go to the other devices present under the Recording tab, such as internal and external mics. Go to their properties and make sure that for each of them the 'Listen to this device' option is UNchecked. Now, get back to the Recording tab. If you had previously set Stereo Mix as standard device, it will no longer be show as unavaiable.
If you hadn't, do it now so it might work - I had, so it was working when I unchecked the device-listening box of external mic. Here's a better solution than unplugging your headphones (and waking up the house):Open the Realtek HD Audio Manager (the orange-red speaker icon in the system tray).Double-click on the 'front panel' jack picture (usually the green round one). You should get a list titled 'Which device did you plug in?' Change the selection from 'Headphone' to 'Front Speaker Out'. Now the system won't recognize headphones being in use and will output the stereo sound to them anyways. And you will be able to record using Stereo Mix.
